Wall Street Journal: Ruth The Greatest Yankee

In 2010, the Wall Street Journal did analysis based on a comprehensive set of criteria to determine which 10 Yankee position players were the greatest of all-time. The categories included postseason batting, fielding range, on-base plus slugging percentage and wins above replacement player. Also included was the player’s impact on team attendance and his effect on the value of the franchise. They also scored each candidate by their relevance in popular culture, upstandingness and earning power in the collectibles market.

Based on all of these criteria, Babe Ruth was #1 by a wide margin. Ruth received 96.4 points, while #2 Lou Gehrig received 76.9. To learn more about this analysis or about the other top 10 Yankees based on the WSJ criteria, view the article.
